FEDASEN - About

FEDASEN's end to end Smart Services

FEDASEN has developed an innovative technology by which it has provided a variety of services to cover roadside asset management with ease and accuracy.

There are five main services that we provide, each of which is a step toward enabling urban infrastructure service providers in giving the best service to citizens:

Detection

FEDASEN has put a powerful AI-powered image processing engine in the heart of Intelligent Road Analyser in which many visual patterns are defined so that any image or video captured of roads can be processed to detect the assets and defects and extract their data.  This is an innovative technology that puts the next generation of road asset management systems in the hands of infrastructure service providers.

Since the AI engine employs Machine Learning techniques, the system is trained gradually on any defined visual pattern to detect the objects more accurately. So, in each image recording and processing round the accuracy of the detection gets better and the whole efficiency of the system increases.

Utilising Intelligent Road Analyser there is no need for manual data gathering and data entry, nor for human inspection of data being accurate and up-to-date.

The pattern definition and recognition capabilities used in the system cover, but are not limited to, lines, signs, markings and defects. These are the focal point of FEDASEN’s, although there are many more definable and detectable objects on or at the side of the roads that can come under our umbrella.

Classification

Since many business procedures, as well as reporting, are performed on logical groups of assets, it is utterly important to put the detected assets under a logical, and preferably inherent, classification.

FEDASEN’s AI engine has the capability to automatically classify objects in any hierarchical organisation. All you have to do is relate any defined pattern to a node in the hierarchy. The rest will be done by the system.

Training the system’s AI engine by fine-tuning the result of its image processing not only increases the accuracy of detection but also betters the classification quality.

Intelligent Road Analyser has keen eyes by which it detects even objects somewhat similar to the objects with the defined pattern. It classifies them as unknown for later inspection. As soon as the object gets classified, the system learns to recognize it from the next round on. This way, the number of unrecognized objects gets smaller and the system gets smarter.

You may take a look at the full list of Asset Classes – already defined to will shortly be defined in the system – before you move to the next service.

Condition Rating

The physical condition and serviceability of the assets may deteriorate by time, accidents or even natural causes. A pavement marking may fade, a piece of asphalt may crack, a piece of cement kerb may get chipped and a traffic sign may be bent out of shape or even be blocked by foliage out of sight.

Inspecting, logging, reporting and keeping track of the whole operation has been a burden. Until now! By Intelligent Road Analyser you can set different visual patterns of the same object to represent different conditions. Although the most used conditions are As New, Good, Fair, Poor and Unserviceable, they can be labelled under any other names and cover a much wider range.

The system not only detects and classifies the object completely automatically but does the condition rating in the same manner as well. It creates a historical log of all the changes in the conditions and makes them machine-reportable. The system also can create a work order to be sent to the maintenance service provider through the systematic pipeline between the system and existing systems, or by email or any other means.

Visualisation

All the images and videos recorded, points of interest detected and classified, and all the data extracted and stored in the system’s database need to be presented in an easy-to-use web interface to let the users enjoy the power of accessible information.

FEDASEN’s web portal is an integral part of Intelligent Road Analyser, in which all the above all this happens. The users can

  • browse the data in data grids, where they can search for any asset by various tools and display them on the map,
  • see them in graphical charts format to know about their statistical distribution in any given area,
  • filter objects displayed on the map by drawing geometrical shapes, such as circles, lines and polygons,
  • display objects of different classes, such as signs, lines and defects, side by side on the same map,
  • view still images and panoramic views and watch videos taken of any specific objects,
  • and review and edit asset’s properties and even add assets manually if needed

Integration

There exist many information systems in any organisation to which any new software solution should integrate. The integration can take on two levels: functionality, data. On the data level, FEDASEN provides many ways of data exchange, from simple export/import in the standard file formats to real-time API calls. The data can be transferred via a simple FTP service or through an ETL process, depending on the customer’s requirements. Our solution is developed on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and therefore it is able to communicate with any system which supports RESTful APIs. So, on the functionality lever, we provide a rich set of  APIs to exchange data and seamlessly integrate the system to achieve a higher level of a harmoniously working system. SAP, ArcGIS, Maximo and customer’s internal asset management systems are just some of the known software systems that we already have our system integrate with.

Key advantages of FEDASEN's solution

Intelligent

  • It utilised computer vision to automatically detect objects on or at the side of the roads
  • It employs machine learning to train and enhance itself
  • It uses multiple sources – image, videos, data forms – to improve the quality of data

Accurate

  • It accepts and processes the output high-resolution recording devises
  • It is fed by the devices that detect the physical location of the objects with a centimetre of precision
  • It improves the accuracy of the data in each recording round trip

Accessible

  • It works on any type of standard device, from desktop PCs to mobile devices
  • It accepts the base images and videos from various recording devices
  • Its data can be accessed through various interfaces, from its own user interface to service buses

Affordable

  • It accepts input from a wide range of recording devices, not just the high-end ones, depending on the precision required and the devices owned by the customer.
  • It can be implemented in a purely SaaS environment or be set up on the premise of the customer.

Conformant

  • It is developed according to the best practices of software development
  • It conforms to the highest standards of web application development in security, performance, scalability
  • It integrates with existing modern and legacy systems
